Moving from Thought to Action: A Lesson in True Kindness

The Sweetness of Action: Moving Beyond What We See

"A kind, private moment in a supermarket kitchen area. The central figure (Humble Love), a Black woman in a patterned blouse, gently hands a brown paper bag with a snack to a appreciative Black coworker with an Afro-puff hairstyle, whom she pulled away from a group."

We live in a world that does a lot of watching. We watch the trends, we watch the people around us, and we watch situations unfold from a comfortable distance. It is easy to become an expert observer. But observation alone doesn't change a room, it doesn't feed a soul, and it certainly doesn't create anything new.

Lately, the universe has been dropping a couple of sharp reminders into my day about the profound difference between just looking at a situation and actually letting your hands move to do something about it.

Observation vs. Kindness

Yesterday at work, a coworker came in late. The rush of the day took over, time slipped away, and she missed her lunch break entirely. She was running on empty, trying to keep up.

There are people who sit very close to her every single day. People who laugh with her, talk with her, and gossip with her. They observed that she missed her lunch. They saw the gap. But not one saw it fit to step out and grab a small snack to help her through the shift.

When my lunchtime came—and I was the last one to attend lunch—I chose not to just observe. I squeezed in the time to buy her something to eat. True community isn't built on the words we exchange when things are easy; it’s built on active kindness when we notice someone is struggling. Observation notices the gap; active kindness bridges it.

As I stepped back toward the workplace, a vehicle with a familiar number rolled slowly past me, pausing right before the traffic light. It felt like a quiet, cosmic nod—a reminder that when you operate on the frequency of active care, the universe notices.

Thought vs. Action

The same lesson showed up right in my kitchen. I was experimenting with a new batch of banana ice lollies for the hustle. My daughter took one look at the mix and said she didn’t fancy it.

In that moment, I could have over thought it. I could have let doubt take over or let the batch sit there unfinished because I was out of fresh bananas to completely start over. Instead, I trusted my instincts, took action, and poured a splash of sweetened condensed milk into the mix.

Guess who is asking for more now?

If I had stayed stuck in the thought of her rejection, the magic wouldn't have happened. A little bit of faith, paired with a practical adjustment, turned a moment of doubt into a certified hit.

The Rhythm of the Day

We don't need a grand stage to practice sanctuary. We just need to move from thought to action.

  • Don't just watch someone miss a meal; be the one who brings the bread.

  • Don't just doubt the recipe of your plans; add a little sweetness and keep freezing.

Let your observations move your hands today. Stay rhythmic, stay active, and watch how the universe sweetens the results.
