The Shoreline Grace: What the Tide Leaves Behind

The Shoreline Grace: What the Tide Leaves Behind

Words by Adika. A. Toussaint (HumbleLove)

Gentle ocean waves washing over smooth shore stones on a peaceful Saint Lucian beach at dawn.

SECTION I: THE POETIC REFLECTION

The sea does not contend against the stone,

nor force the tide to hurry to the shore.

In rhythmic rhythm, rolling on alone,

it gives and gathers back forevermore.

The jagged edge that once stood sharp and proud

is softened where the gentle waters meet.

No angry surge, no thunder fierce and loud,

just quiet grace that makes the harsh complete.

So let the heavy waves wash over past,

and leave behind what clean and still remains.

For smooth and strong, the heart stands fast,

healed by the tides that wash away the strains.

SECTION II: ESSAY & GUIDANCE

Walking along the coastal waters of Saint Lucia at first light offers a profound lesson in endurance. The shore does not fight the ocean waves; it receives them. Over days, months, and years, the constant wash of the tide takes the sharpest, rough stones and smooths them until they feel gentle in your palm.

Life often sends heavy currents our way—difficult days, unexpected friction, and moments that threaten to wear down our resolve. But if we allow those experiences to refine us rather than harden us, grace takes over. The water removes what is sharp and unnecessary, leaving behind a polished resilience.

At the end of every ebb and flow, notice what remains standing. You are not defined by the roughness of the wave that hit you, but by the calm, smooth strength you carry after it recedes.

🌿 Sanctuary Principles

  • Smooth Your Edges: Allow life's challenges to teach you gentle resilience rather than bitterness.

  • Rhythmic Flow: Learn when to yield to the wave and trust the tide to clean the slate.

  • What Endures: Focus on the peace that remains after the noise of the day subsides.
