The Quiet Visitor: A Sonnet & Tanka on Unspoken Connection

He walked in, offered a single greeting, made a quiet loop, and left—reminding us that not every visitor comes to buy; some just leave a little peace behind. 🕊️✨

 The Quiet Visitor

By: Humble Love

A moody, grainy, atmospheric film photograph taken from behind a dark store counter, looking towards a hazy, sun-drenched entrance. A solitary, dark silhouette of a lone figure is captured just entering the store, offering a fleeting, subtle nod. The view is your perspective, creating a moment of subtle connection and mystery against the warm backlighting.

A stranger walked into the quiet space,

And passed the others by without a word.

He offered just a nod toward my face,

A silent greeting, sudden and unheard.

He drifted through the aisles with steady pace,

No item picked, no bargain sought or found,

As if he searched to find a hidden trace,

Then slipped away without a single sound.

We stood in wonder at the empty door,

And laughed to make some sense of what had passed,

A momentary shadow on the floor,

A sudden reflection that could not last.

Some souls arrive with nothing left to buy,

Except to leave a peace as they pass by.

A stranger steps in,

Nodding only to my side,

Leaves with empty hands—

Some people travel through life

Just to drop a quiet peace.
