The ancient woods were said to be haunted, a place where the spirits of the past lingered, their whispers carried on the wind. Local folklore warned of strange occurrences, of disappearing hikers and the chilling wail of a ghostly child. Despite the tales, I was drawn to the forest, a thrill-seeker eager to test my courage.
A crisp autumn evening, the perfect time for a visit. The trees stood like silent sentinels, their branches reaching towards the starless sky. As I ventured deeper, the air grew heavy with an unnatural stillness. The only sound was the soft crunch of leaves beneath my feet and the distant hoot of an owl.
Suddenly, a twig snapped behind me. I whirled around, my heart pounding. There was nothing there, just the eerie glow of the moon filtering through the dense canopy. A cold shiver ran down my spine as I pressed on, my senses heightened.
Then I heard it. A faint, mournful wail, like the cry of a lost soul. It echoed through the woods, growing louder and more insistent. Fear gripped me as I realized I was not alone. The forest was alive with something sinister, something that wanted me to leave.
I turned to flee, but it was too late. A shadowy figure emerged from the darkness, its eyes glowing with an unnatural light. Panic surged through me as I tried to run, but my legs felt like lead. The figure lunged, its icy touch sending a jolt of pain through my body.
